Antique & Vintage Pearl Engagement Rings

Antique & Vintage Pearl Engagement Rings

Few gemstones capture romance as gracefully as the pearl. Long regarded as symbols of purity, loyalty and new beginnings, pearls have adorned engagement rings since the Georgian and Victorian eras. Their soft lustre and natural beauty lend an unmistakable air of refinement — perfect for those who favour subtle elegance over sparkle.

Our collection of antique and vintage pearl engagement rings spans the Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco periods, from delicate seed-pearl clusters to platinum and diamond halo designs. Each ring is an original work of art, chosen for its craftsmanship, condition and timeless charm.

Every piece is hand-selected by gemmologist Zuleika Gerrish FGA DGA, certified authentic, and presented in our signature Parkin & Gerrish pink-and-green box. Free worldwide DHL Express delivery and complimentary resizing ensure your chosen ring arrives ready to treasure — a jewel that glows softly with history and love.

1. Are pearls durable for daily wear?
Pearls are naturally delicate and best suited to occasional wear. They form in layers of nacre, which can be affected by heat, perfume (scent) or chemicals. Antique pearl engagement rings are perfect for those who value romance and care — a jewel to be worn thoughtfully rather than every day. Remove before washing, sleeping or exercising to preserve their soft lustre.

2. How were antique pearls set?
In Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian jewellery, pearls were typically set on gold or silver-topped gold, often with tiny claws or a delicate cup known as a “collet.” Many were mounted on natural cement or fish glue, making them secure yet sensitive to moisture. Their craftsmanship speaks to an era when jewels were lovingly handmade.

3. How should I clean a pearl engagement ring?
Avoid ultrasonic or chemical cleaners. Instead, gently wipe pearls with a soft, slightly damp cloth after wearing. Store your ring separately, ideally in a silk or velvet-lined box, to prevent abrasion from harder gemstones. With care, pearls maintain their glow for generations — a true heirloom of quiet beauty.
